Caving Certification

caving certification
Is it safe to go through all the scuba diving courses (OW, AOW, Nitrox, Cavern, Cave, etc) in a year (or less)?

My boyfriend started scuba diving about 5 months ago. He is now cavern certified and wants to get all the certifications possible including Cave. Is it safe for some one to go through all certifications in less than (or almost) a year?

He dives almost every weekend but still I think he needs to gain more experience diving rather than zipping through these certifications.

thoughts?

There are many reasons that people get into the sport of scuba diving. I personally had no desire to take it but found that I loved it. I went from Open Water certification to Instructor in a little over a year and have been teaching the sport for 26 years now. In going through the various levels and certification courses, I gained both knowledge and experience in scuba. The courses that I took were under the direct or indirect supervision of instructors who were willing to fine tune my diving skills and offer advice and practical solutions for things that were never really addressed during my original open water class.
As long as your boyfriend is going through the educational process for the various specialties that certification agencies offer he is learning and gaining experience.
My first year of diving included about 175 dives and I actively sought out instructors that enjoyed teaching the various specialties in which I engaged.
Even though I am an instructor with 26 years of diving under my belt, I refuse to think that I know it all and still consider myself “learning” whenever I go diving.
