Caving Courses Uk

In the diaspora, do all countries have a Chief Rabbi?
In the UK we have one (Rabbi Jonathan Sacks) but many people don’t agree with him. For example, he was a good and longtime friend of another Rabbi who was less religious. When this second Rabbi passed away, Jonathan Sacks planned to attend the funeral, of course. But the orthodox community pressured him not to and he caved. Don’t you agree this is appalling? To refuse to attend a friend’s funeral just because their approach to religion was somewhat more relaxed?
If you have a Chief Rabbi in your country, do you recognise them as your official representative? Do you respect them?
ST – so you’d prefer that Reform and Progressive Jews failed to practise the faith totally, would you, rather than observe only some of the rules? I know a few Rabbis who may not be orthodox but they are great people and good Jews also.
I don’t believe the US has a Chief Rabbi. That is because of the First Amendment and judicial decisions forbidding governmental entanglements with religion; and Jews don’t have anything like the Catholic Church’s College of Cardinals. Various religious organizations and sects liaise with the government, but as a post, “Chief Rabbi” does not exist here.
