Where to Bats and Owls really sleep?
Ok, im from illinois i was born and raised here, and in the 18 years of my life ive begun to ask the important questions.
Like where bats and owls really sleep…lol. In the movies and such you see that Bats hang upside down in trees, or live in caves and that owls live in convenient holes in trees. Now, ive lived in this same small farming town my whole life, i know the area, and i know for a fact that there are no caves and ive spent enough time outside to realize that i have never seen a bat hanging from a tree. Nor have i ever seen an owl Sleeping in a hole in a tree or ever heard of anyone stumbling upon a sleeping one.
Im going to assume most bats live on buildings and such, like in belltowers and what not.
but im just sorta curious seeing as how ive never seen either of these during the day, they are obviously there but hidden considering they are nocturnal, but i was just sorta curious…
If there is a cave available bats will use it..however there are not a whole lot of caves around anymore, especially in cities. Bats take refuge in bridges, freeway overpasses, buildings: barns, house attics, etc. and many bats do roost in trees, rock crevices, and some species even use leaf litter. Owls roost in trees (palms are big owl roosting sites in cities), and sure if they find a tree cavity big enough..they will use it. They will also use cavities or holes in cliffs, or embankments. Barn Owls will roost in…..you guessed it….barns!
