Tips for creating a sound/recording room at home?
I have a small room under the house, (there are cave-like passages under the house, following the original wall foundation). The room is probably about 4x5m, and i need to suit it to recording drums, guitars and vocals. It currently has a wooden ceiling, which is the wooden floor of the room above. How should i seal the ceiling? What measures should i take to build the room to the specific specifications i need? (like type of floor, ceiling, walls, etc)
Zeke – You really don’t need to make this too expensive or complicated. Just finish the room like any normal room. After that, you can add acoustic panels if the room has too much echo.
If there is a lot of noise above you, the easiest thing is to only record when it is quiet. Making the ceiling “soundproof” will be expensive. Search “homemade recording booth” to find plans.
