caving united states
Is the United States under more threat from impending fiscal disaster than terrorism?

“I would argue that the most serious threat to the United States is not someone hiding in a cave in Afghanistan or Pakistan but our own fiscal irresponsibility,” (U.S. Comptroller General Walker). Walker is generally very well respected by both political parties.

Are we ever going to elect a President who will flatly state that we need to both raise taxes and cut entitlements in order to get us out of the disatrous debt scenario we are in, or do we just not want to know the truth? Please read the link before answering.

This is the problem with politics!

If a President says what needs to be said, even his own party will turn away from him because all the Congressmen and Senators need to get re-elected, and there is always some Liberal candidate who will just irresponsibly pander to the voters.

We should enact a balanced budget amendment. In times of war, some programs will simply have to be cut. These may be good opportunities to pare down bloated programs anyway. How much could we save if we got rid of the Department of Planning and Urban Development? I don’t think they are worth anything.

How about if each new program and department came with an expiration date, requiring a 3/5th majority to reinstate it?

As worried as I am about a looming budget crisis, we have to remember the wise, comforting, and intentionally funny words of Ronald Reagan: “I’m not worried about the budget deficit. It’s big enough to take care of itself”.
