How brainwashed do you think us Western people are….?
We’re so conditioned from they day we start to talk and use our senses, with TV, movies, magazines ect. It seems any inherent instincts we might have have been overriden by all the media stuff.
There’s a native tribe called the Hadza in south America, or Australia (not sure which, sorry!).
They are completely isolated from the developed world, they live like cave men, in a prehistoric world.
Anyway, these scientists tested their ideas on beauty and their standards on other things too.
These native people found celebrities who the media claim to be highly attractive were repulsive to them!
Scientists also tested their ideas on other things, not just physical apperance (that was just one example), needless to say the tribe disagreed.
So, how brainwashed do you reckon we are? Is it bad? Are this tribe brainwashed their own way, even though they’ve been left to natural devices? I’m just curious… Thanks.
Every society is “brainwashed” in a sense. They are conditioned to percieve the values and ways of life of their people to be normal and anything else to be deviant or abnormal in some way. We are studying this in my sociology class. There is no absolute natural way of life for humans. Even if every single person/society in the world dropped all technological and cultural advances and decided to live in a completely prehistoric way, lifestyles would vary depending on location if only because different methods of survival are needed for different regions. There really are no objective values held by all of mankind, they are all subjective and what we tend to value is based on what our particular society “brainwashes” us to believe and value.
