Is there a sure way to tell if a piece of meat or a plate of eggs has been properly cooked?
so i recently recovered from a close encounter with food poisoning from undercooked meat. it seemed hot and well cooked to me until i spent the next 24 hours puking my guts out. so is there a way to make sure all the bacteria living in a piece of meat without overcooking it (i hate nothing on gods green earth more than overcooked meat. its like chewing a rope)?
You most likely got food poisoning from something else. If it is chicken that you are looking to cook properly, when the juices from the chicken run clear (they usually run pink) then it is done. OR you can press firmly on the center of the chicken with your index finger. If it doesn’t have a lot of give and is firm, then it is done.
Eggs you can tell are done when there is no more clear runny stuff. If you are asking about scrambled eggs, keep the temperature low and when there is no more liquid shut the heat off and immediately remove from the burner.
Beef is less touchy than poultry. You can tell the doneness by also pressing in the center of the meat with your index finger. The more firm it is, the more well done it is.
With any meat, the fibers of the meat tighten up which is why it is firm when it is cooked all the way through. Good luck!
